Frequently Asked Questions

International Roaming lets you use your service for calls, text and data while you are travelling overseas, just as if you were in Australia, using your usual phone number. Your phone will connect to a local network, who then send us a bill which we then pass on to you.

  • Make sure that International Roaming is activated on your service
  • Turn on Cellular Data / Data Roaming on your phone if you plan to use data when overseas
  • Check that your phone is compatible with overseas networks. If you've got a newish phone you will be fine in most countries, but some countries (such as Canada) use different mobile technology from what we use in Australia.
  • Make sure that your phone is network unlocked if you intend to use a local SIM card in your phone while overseas.

It's easy! Do it on your mobile via the My Account app (under 'Settings') or online via My Account (under 'Services').

No, we do not currently support International Roaming for Prepaid customers. However, you can still use your phone overseas with a local SIM card for calls and texts (as long as your phone is network unlocked) and use Wi-Fi hotspots for data.

Yes, we send you text alerts for roughly every $100 spent on data while roaming. Sometimes alerts can take a bit longer due to delays in estimating how much you've spent.

If you purchase an Roaming Data Pack you will also get alerts as you use 50%, 85% and 100% of your pack.

Yes! Simply dial +61411000212 and follow the prompts. However, unlike checking your Voicemail in Oz, which is always free, it will cost the same as a making a call from the country you are in at the time.

You will need your voicemail PIN to access your Voicemail while roaming, so make sure you have it handy.

The Fine Print:

International Roaming: all rates are in $AUD. Calls are for standard national & international numbers (not premium, satellite or marine numbers) and are charged in 60 second increments. Data is counted per kilobyte and includes uploads and downloads. Roaming is available on postpaid mobile (not on prepaid or mobile broadband) once activated in My Account. Roaming charges may be delayed, are on top of your monthly minimum spend and aren't covered by your monthly (within Oz) plan inclusions. Coverage and phone compatibility varies by country and network.

Roaming Data Packs: all rates are in $AUD. Data is counted per kilobyte and includes uploads and downloads. After 30 days your pack expires, unused data is lost and does not roll over. See map above for more information including the Zone 1 countries where packs can be used and the data rates that apply once you've used your pack's allowance.

500MB Roaming Bonus: available at no additional cost when you sign up or change plans to a $70 or higher postpaid (Phone or SIM) plan before 31 January 2017. Once the 500MB Roaming Bonus has been applied (up to 72 hours after sign up) you have 365 days to use it in Zone 1 countries. Any unused 500MB Roaming Bonus data does not rollover at the end of this period and is forfeited earlier if you cancel or change plans. 500MB Roaming Bonus data will be used before any Roaming Data Packs that you purchase. Data is counted per kilobyte (KB) and includes uploads and downloads. There are 1,024KB in a megabyte (MB). Standard roaming data rates apply beyond the 500MB or 365 days.
