Data Plans and Data Usage

How much data will I use?

That really depends on you. If you plan to check your email once or twice a day the 50MB plan will probably work for you. If you're always looking for something to do on your phone, think about the 300MB plan and if you like to be always connected you may want to go for the 1GB offer. Take a look at Data Subscription rates.

Is mobile browsing usage only reported for 3G customers?

Mobile browsing is measured for everyone who surfs the web via their handset - so that's both 2G and 3G customers. All Virgin Mobile customers can check their data usage via the MyAccount section of this site. For more info take a look at Mobile Browsing Usage Reports.

How is data usage counted?

We measure the number of kilobytes (KB) of data you either upload or download via our network.

Mobile browsing and 3G

What is mobile browsing?

It's just like browsing the internet on your computer except you use your phone so the big difference is the size of the screen.

How do I access mobile browsing?

You need a 2G or 3G phone. If you have one and you cant see the Virgin Vibe logo on the screen, we've got some instructions on how to set up your internet access.

What is 3G?

3G stands for 'Third Generation' phones. The 'First Generation' mobiles were the old analogue bricks. 'Second Generation' or 2G phones were the first digital mobiles. These phones provide access to WAP sites which are basically simple web pages designed specifically for these phones.

With 3G you're not limited to special phone-only sites you can access the general internet, although most major websites have created special pages that work best on smaller screens.

Why do I need 3G and what can it do for me?

With 3G you get fast, dynamic web browsing, extra-speedy downloads and access to lots of cool content, such as full length music and video tracks.

It's all about convenience. With 3G you can keep up-to-date and check out your favourite websites on-the-go.
