+ For these countries you will need to hire a phone (either CDMA or iDEN)
* For these countries you will need a phone which is capable of using Tri-Band networks. Not all mobile phones sold in Australia can do this, so before Globetrotting to these countries, call us or check with your phone manufacturer or manual.
** Inbound Globetrotting only.

Before you go checklist

You'll need to be on monthly billing so you can roam with us. Initially your account is barred from Globetrotting, so contact the Virgin Mobile Team on 1300 555 100… or email us on team@virginmobile.com.au to see if we can release you! Once we've turned on Globetrotting for your service, we won't turn it off until you ask - so you can jet-set without the hassle of setting it up every time!

  • If you've paid your last three bills on time and you don't have an overdue bill, you can go without paying anything upfront. Otherwise, you'll need to make a one-off upfront payment of $250 which is added as a credit to your account.
  • Now you'll need to check if you can roam in the country you are visiting and what networks are available.
  • To make sure you receive all your messages when you are overseas, we suggest you either:
  • For Voicemail: Change your Personal Welcome to say that you're away and there may be a delay in calling back… and then divert all your calls to Voicemail to save on international call costs.
  • For Page-mail: you can always send all your calls to Page-mail and simply read them on the screen of your phone, rather than paying international call rates to hear your messages.
  • Keep your phone secure by noting the Serial Number of your phone in case it is lost or stolen.
  • Pack your mobile phone battery charger + an electrical plug adaptor.
  • You will also pay to receive calls whilst Globetrotting. These will be rated at the Virgin Mobile international call rates (including 27c call connection) PLUS may additionally include charges from the overseas network you are using.
  • To ask about rates overseas, just give us a call on 1300 555 100. Bear in mind these prices will vary with exchange rates and may also change without notice.
  • How do I listen to my Voicemail messages? Just call +61411000212. "+" is the Mobile GSM standard for the international prefix (just like 0011 in Australia). Because each country has different international prefixes, it's much easier to just use "+".

When you arrive overseas

What's the first thing I should do?
Turn your phone on (and we don't mean by letting it vibrate). If the name of the overseas carrier doesn't show up on the screen of your phone, turn it off and on a few times. If the name of the overseas carrier still doesn't appear, select the "Networks" section on your phone's menu and manually select a Network.

How do I make a call when I'm o/s?

1. Making an international call while o/s?

Dial '+' or the international access code, the country code, then the area code & number.
For example, when calling Australia from Italy…
Dial '+' or the international access code '00', the country code '61', then the area code
(without the leading '0'), & the number.

2. Making a national call while o/s?

Dial the area code & the local number.

3. Making a local call while o/s?

Dial the local number (exactly as the residents of that country do).

What if my mobile phone or Sim Card is stolen?
