Before you choose your BYO modem, check the list below to ensure your modem is compatible.

  • Type of modem: It can be a USB modem, WiFi modem, wireless data card or inbuilt modem in a laptop.
  • Frequency: Frequency: With 3G devices, you can access our 3G (UMTS 2100 MHz / 900 MHz) network. With 4G devices you can access our 3G network plus some or all of our 4G network. Our 4G network will use multiple frequencies (LTE 700 / 1800 / 2100 / 2300 / 2600 MHz) to provide coverage. Coverage availability will vary depending on your device and location. Check coverage at virginmobile.com.au/coverage based on your address and device.
  • Network unlocked: If you're locked to another network, you'll need to contact your previous service provider to unlock it.
  • SIM card slot: So you can plug in our Virgin Mobile Broadband SIM card.

Modem Setup

OK. So you're ready to roll? You'll just need to update your modem connection settings, so it knows to use our network.

The Fine Print:

Bring Your Own (BYO): Check your device is not locked to other networks and that it’s compatible with the networks described at virginmobile.com.au/coverage

Postpaid Mobile Broadband: Approved customers only. If you leave your plan early, you’ll also need to pay out any unpaid contributions towards the full cost of your device including those we were going to cover. You can find out the monthly contributions for your device from bills, sign up information, or by logging in at virginmobile.com.au/myaccount

Prepaid Mobile Broadband: proof of ID required and we may cancel your service if you don’t recharge within 180 days after your data expires. Data: allowance includes uploads and downloads and is counted in kilobytes. If you go over your allowance you will be unable to use further data and your browser will redirect to our website where you can recharge. Peer to Peer speed is limited to 32kbps. Data: Data is counted per kilobyte and includes uploads and downloads. Exceed your monthly allowance and speed will be limited to 128kbps for the next 250MB.
